Chief Engineer/Maintenance Manager Job Description: The Chief Engineer will take care of the hotel“s infrastructure and to ensure the premises are safe and functional for guests and Team Members alike. What will I be doing? As Chief Engineer, you are responsible for the effective management of all engineering and maintenance operations within the hotel, including energy conservation. You are also responsible for the development of the Engineering Team and staying abreast of compliance regulations and procedures in the field of Engineering, as required for hotel standards. Specifically, a Chief Engineer will perform the following tasks to the highest standards: Duties: Inspect the hotel regularly to ensure it meets safety standards and take corrective action as required Arrange for routine maintenance in hotel rooms, lobby and facilities (heart of house, kitchen etc.) Plan and oversee renovations and construction Develop, implement emergency programs and act fast to resolve emergency issues (e.g. power outages) Find ways to reduce hotel operating costs and conserve energy and water Select, train and supervise maintenance team member(s) Manage relationships with contractors and service providers Manage the engineering budget, expenses and maintain activity logs Perform a variety of repair and maintenance tasks including, but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, electrical work and painting, Manage LightStay and monitor Engineering Key Performance Indicators. Take corrective action as required to improve equipment inventory, quality audit scores, productivity and guest satisfaction Support the overall management of the hotel by establishing effective working relationships with all other departments, ensuring a high level of cross departmental collaboration Be a role model for others in regards to passionate, friendly guest service who is line with HGI brand personality and pillars. To successfully fill this role, you should maintain the attitude, behaviours, skills, and values that follow: Advanced knowledge of building management/engineering A degree in Engineering or similar Exposure to budgeting and basic accounting Positive attitude Good communication skills Committed to delivering a high level of customer service Strong leadership skills and previous experience of managing a team Excellent grooming standards Flexibility to respond to a range of different work situations Ability to work under pressure Ability to work on their own Previous experience of facilities management Proficient, at an advanced level, with computers and relevant computer programs It would be advantageous in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions: First Aid Qualification in engineering field.
