Job title: NMC Engineer Department: Network Monitoring Center Reports to: Head of the Department Authorization: Management Board Date: January 2018 Job Description: Member of a team of shift workers staffing the optical network monitoring centre, responsible for monitoring transmission systems and for carrying out proactive routines, maintenance tasks. Duties and Responsibilities: - Act as a member of the NMC shift team within the NMC Control Room. - Perform troubleshooting on the network to identify the cause of the incident or problem. - Follow the incident on trouble ticketing system. - Help on troubleshooting the cause of the problem with other Engineering Departments. - Report problems, SLA, KPIs to other Departments. - Escalate the problems to specific technical department. - Perform 1st level restoration of the service. - Use the various management tools to monitor the Transmission systems managed from the NMC, in order to detect failures and alarms. - Use the diagnostic and test facilities of the various management tools to localize the cause of the failure or alarm. - Collaborate with Field Support staff, customers and in order to ensure that service is restored efficiently in line with Service Level Agreements, following a network failure or alarm. - Perform proactive routines and maintenance tasks on the platforms and systems, as laid down in NMC Procedures and Practices, or as directed by NMC management from time to time. - Ensure all fault information, and any corrective actions taken, are recorded in the Remedy Trouble Ticketing system. - Participate on different trainings made by the departments. - Follow the procedures prepare by the department. Qualifications: Bachelor or Master degree in Engineering or Computer Science Work Experience: - Formal training in telecommunications, or related subject, or relevant on the job experience, gained as an assistant technician within the NMC. - A minimum of two years operational experience in a Network Management Center environment. - Good technical training or on-the-job experience of switch, transmission or data networks. Personal skills: - Good interpersonal, organizational skills - Analytical skills - Work as part of a team - PC skills Knowledge: - Knowledge of Network topology - Sound knowledge of transmission principles - Understanding of customer base & Service Level Agreements - Knowledge of the NMC Fault processes and procedures - Sound knowledge of the Remedy application Note: Besides everyday work specified in this JD, employee has to realize extra work (For special occasions) given by his supervisor within the departmental profile.
