FORESTRY ENGINEER

The Forestry Engineer is a site based supervisory and technical position requiring the incumbent to supervise the tree felling process, in respect to how trees are cut. The Forestry Engineer, reporting to the crew supervisor, shall advise on techniques and safety precautions critical to the tree felling process. The Forestry Engineer shall also hold a valid certification or registration with the Albanian Department of Forestry. The duration of the role is anticipated to be approximately 1-year.

Responsibilities:
Advise on tree felling techniques and safety precautions continuously on site.
Advise on personnel that require additional craft training in the tree felling crew.
Assist with any training of chainsaw operators.
Monitor and advise the crew supervisor on Safety Officers’ competence on marking out the work areas. And monitor and assess workers’ competency, and assign grades to operators.
Carry out tree assessment and mark trees that present a high safety risk.
Carry out safety awareness inductions (TBT and JSA) in coordination with the crew supervisor.
Shall always be present at the work location while tree felling is taking place, and while the tree felling crew is on site.
Ensure personnel involved in operations are aware of Albanian tree felling codes and practices and adhere to safety rules and regulations.
Ensure any marked areas or items are preserved and not damaged during tree felling activities.
Records tree felling progress data, including, area, number of trees cut, type and size classes, etc on a daily basis.
Compiles and prepares tree felling summary reports as required on work carried out.

Requirements:
Valid Certification or registration with the Albanian Department of Forestry.
University or post-Secondary Degree in a Natural Sciences field or similar.
Second languages: minimum intermediate level English, (read/ write/ speak). Italian language an asset.
Able to mobilize and switch to different remote job locations for extended continuous periods during the execution of the tree felling work in the Fier – Ura Vajgurore – Berat – Corovode – Korce areas.
